Sonia McLain grew up in Livingston, Montana where at age seven she began dancing at the Yellowstone Ballet Company. She performed in many YBC productions from age seven to eighteen, including the Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Giselle, Hansel & Gretel, and the Elves and the Shoemaker. In the summers, she participated in some of the summer intensives hosted by YBC. With a desire to meet more dancers and gain more experience, she additionally took lyrical and ballet classes at Main Street Dance Theater and performed in their spring recitals. When she graduated high school, she moved to Missoula and started taking jazz and ballet classes where she again had the opportunity to perform in some of their productions. In May, she received a degree in German and a certificate in teaching English; thereafter she decided to move back to the Bozeman area, where she got involved in as many dance-related activities as she could, including indepenDANCE. She is so excited to continue her love of dance by being a member of Raison D’être Dance Project.
